Product description

Dive into the avant-garde world of free jazz with "Three Lines," a captivating album by Achille Succi, released in 2007 on the Artesuono label. This 52-minute journey features eight tracks that showcase the raw, unbridled talent of Succi, alongside the masterful contributions of Giovanni Maier on double bass and U.T. Gandhi on drums. The album opens with "Turriaco," a piece composed by Maier, setting the stage for a sonic exploration that is as intellectually stimulating as it is musically satisfying.

"Three Lines" is a testament to the power of improvisation and the beauty of spontaneous composition. Succi's alto saxophone and bass clarinet weave intricate melodies that dance around Maier's deep, resonant bass lines and Gandhi's delicate, yet dynamic percussion. Each track, from the haunting "Night Lines" to the hopeful "Grandi Speranza," offers a unique perspective on the free jazz genre, pushing boundaries and challenging conventions.

The album's production, engineered and mixed by Stefano Amerio, captures the raw energy and precision of the live performances, providing an immersive listening experience. The cover art, designed by Igor Tullio and photographed by Luca D'Agostino, complements the music with its striking visuals, adding another layer of depth to the overall presentation.

Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a curious newcomer, "Three Lines" promises an engaging and thought-provoking listening experience. Achille Succi's distinctive sound, combined with the exceptional talents of Maier and Gandhi, makes this album a standout in the world of contemporary jazz.

About Achille Succi

Achille Succi, born in Modena in 1971, is a saxophonist and bass clarinetist whose music transcends traditional boundaries, delving into the realms of free jazz and avant-garde. Primarily self-taught, Succi honed his skills through masterclasses at Siena Jazz and under the tutelage of Dave Liebman. His musical journey is marked by collaborations with renowned artists such as Louis Sclavis, Ab Baars, and Ernst Reijseger, showcasing his versatility and depth as an improviser.

Succi's discography is a testament to his innovative spirit, featuring works like "Éternité temporaire" and "Microscopie sidérale," which captivate with their lyrical and impassioned expressions. He leads and co-leads various groups, including his own quintet and the "Atman" group, with whom he has toured internationally. His performances are not just musical events but experiences that blend visual arts, literature, and a myriad of other stimuli, creating a rich tapestry of sound and emotion. Whether playing with his quintet, the "Terra" project, or in duo with bassist Salvatore Maiore, Achille Succi's music is a journey of discovery and artistic exploration.
