Product description

Jean-Guihen Queyras presents "Thrace: Sunday Morning Sessions," a captivating blend of classical and chamber music released on August 26, 2016, under the Harmonia Mundi label. This album is a unique fusion of Western classical traditions with the rich, vibrant sounds of Greek and Turkish folk music, featuring collaborations with Sokratis Sinopoulos on the lyra, and the rhythmic prowess of Bijan and Keyvan Chemirani on percussion.

Spanning a diverse range of styles, "Thrace" offers a dynamic listening experience. The album opens with the intricate "Khamse" and "Nihavent Semai," showcasing Queyras' virtuosic cello playing alongside the haunting melodies of the lyra. The collection also includes the contemplative "Visite nocturne" and the playful "Dance in 7/8," demonstrating the ensemble's versatility and technical skill.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 3 minutes, the album is a journey through both familiar and unfamiliar musical territories. Queyras and his collaborators seamlessly weave together traditional and contemporary elements, creating a sound that is both timeless and innovative. Whether you're a fan of classical music or looking to explore new musical horizons, "Thrace: Sunday Morning Sessions" is an album that promises to engage and inspire.
