I concur. Truly amazing. Particularly for the cost! BG knocked it out of the park with the mastering! The pressing is top-notch!
Excellent mastering ruined by excessive vinyl surface noise. I haven't received a honest reissue yet that wasn't troubled by pressing problems. When I compared the LP to high-res digital files, the digital version always sounded superior due to the poor quality pressing.
The Barnaby records promo copy features a big white Barnaby records radio station, not for resale, sticker on the lower front cover.
Wow, this is truly an outstanding album. I own a well-loved stereo first pressing in VG condition that's been a longtime favorite of mine... I can't quite put my finger on what Bernie Grundman did here, or what the source material was, but they've absolutely nailed this reissue, right down to the thick sleeve. I just spent an afternoon comparing copies, playing one side of my old pressing and then one side of the new pressing (and why not, since this is such a fantastic historical recording, it's the kind of album you can listen to on repeat) and I'm just blown away by the new pressing. No clue where Candid pressed their original records back in the day, but this has always been a particularly beloved album of mine, even in VG... Oh my goodness, this new reissue is a must-have. If you're looking to explore Cecil Taylor's work, this is as good a starting point as any, and you've even got some of the earliest recordings of Archie Shepp here too, and that opening drum figure on side one is one of the best openings on any LP I can recall... You'd think I like this??? Grab one to play and keep one sealed in the back of the cabinet for your grandkids LOL. Easily one of the greatest reissues I've encountered in the past few years.
