  • Tears for Fears: Mixed Review

    4 out of 5 stars
    GpinjSserqFoNudxekaoJanuary 5, 2026United States🇺🇸

Initially, I purchased the blue edition from Target. It was awful. I began the return process, and they didn't even want the item back. I received a full refund without having to send it back. I then visited my local store and got the black version. It's completely flat, but there's a tiny bit of noise. I'm blaming that on my stylus needing to be replaced. This is their best work since Seeds of Love (though I might be a bit of a Kings of Spain defender). The songwriting is fantastic. Roland's voice still sounds amazing, particularly when he hits those lower notes. The second side is a bit weak. There are too many mid-tempo songs that aren't as memorable as anything on side 1, except for maybe Rivers of Mercy. I'm seeing a lot of comments saying this album lacks dynamic range. It sounds like any other Tears for Fears album. The bass is clear and present. The highs aren't distorted or harsh. The instruments seem to have plenty of space. It is a thicker sound than past albums, but it's also like 30 years later. I think it sounds fine.

  • TFF's Triumphant Return

    5 out of 5 stars
    mihalfsaan53December 24, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is a really solid pressing all around. It's no surprise that it was pressed by GZ Media, as they've consistently delivered great results in my book. The record is super flat and quiet, with labels perfectly centered, and no issues like non-fill or IGD. It's been ages since TFF released a proper album, and they've truly outdone themselves this time. It's fantastic to have Orzabel and Smith collaborating in the studio again. Despite their history, their chemistry shines when they're working together. Every track is a gem. I caught their tour for this album, and they played most of the new songs, which says a lot. The fact that they're willing to perform mostly new material is a testament to their confidence in this record. Sure, they played the hits, but this album has so much depth, it was a real treat to hear these new songs live. If you're a TFF fan, you can't miss this one, even if you haven't followed them since "Songs for the Big Chair". As usual, there's a strong Beatles influence, with "Long, Long Time" being quite reminiscent of "Long and Winding Road". But it's done with respect, not as a cheap copy. Overall, I'm giving this a perfect 10/10. It's that good.

  • Great Deal, Great Sound

    4 out of 5 stars

Snagged it at Target on a half-price deal! Only paid 11 dollars. No issues, it sounds awesome and even came with a 7” extra.

  • Mastering: Average, Minor Issues

    5 out of 5 stars
    qaxscuxvDecember 3, 2025United States🇺🇸

I wouldn't say this is the best mastering I've heard, but it's not the worst either. I'm okay with it. There's a song with some annoying clicks in my copy, but apart from that, the pressing is alright.

  • Poor Packaging Spoils Record

    4 out of 5 stars
    LvewVetpidNovember 13, 2025United States🇺🇸

Just gave a thorough clean, had a spin, and ultimately sent back my second copy. I've purchased records from the 30-40 year old era that are far less noisy. From the moment I played it, there were pops and clicks, surely due to that cardboard inner sleeve. It's baffling how record companies can pour tens of thousands into recording, mixing, mastering, pressing, artwork, and promotion...only to send out the final product in packaging that's bound to harm the record and spoil the listening experience. Both copies are going back for a refund. Disappointing, to say the least.
