  • Silver's Finest on RTI

    5 out of 5 stars
    lojqfqemApril 8, 2025United States🇺🇸

Once again, the Music Matters 45 series delivers with this release. It might just be Horace Silver's finest work, featuring some truly legendary musicians. The mastering by Gray and Hoffman is top-notch. RTI's 180g pressing is super flat and quiet, and it plays beautifully with both stereo and mono cartridges.

  • Stereo Sound Confirmed

I can CONFIRM this is STEREO, with trumpet and drums on the right channel, sax on the left, piano and bass in the middle.

  • Jazz Band's Fiery Debut

    5 out of 5 stars
    giwju-bemzgohJanuary 12, 2025United States🇺🇸

Ha. The opening track, No Smokin', really lights a fire. Scorches, in fact. I could've easily spent an evening in a jazz lounge, soaking up this band's vibe. These musicians sound like they've shared a stage countless times, not just thrown together for this recording. As far as I know, that's not the case, but the chemistry is undeniable. The album's tracklist is a delightful mix, showcasing a range of styles. Horace Silver often gets pigeonholed for his famous tunes, but this record defies those expectations. The diversity is refreshing and makes for a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

  • Authentic Sound Quality

Great, hefty and authentic sound quality here. No RVG found in the grooves.

  • Super Vinyl Audio Excellence

… absolutely adore the audio quality of these Classic Records all analog mono series. This one is no exception. It brings you even closer to the original recording. The Super Vinyl Flat Profile Pressing by RTI is truly exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

About Horace Silver Quintet

The Horace Silver Quintet, led by the innovative pianist Horace Silver, is a hard-swinging ensemble that revolutionized jazz by blending vintage R&B, gospel, blues, and Caribbean elements. Formed in 1956 after Silver's departure from Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, the quintet's classic lineup featured tenor saxophone, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums. Their series of Blue Note albums, starting with the 1955 studio album, cemented Silver's reputation as one of jazz's major composer/pianists. Known for hits like "Song for My Father" and "Nutville," the Horace Silver Quintet's music is a vibrant journey through hard bop, bebop, and soul jazz, offering a rich and dynamic listening experience.
