Product description

Dive into the innovative world of Roscoe Mitchell with "The Solo Concert," a captivating collection of solo saxophone performances that showcase the artist's mastery and experimental spirit. Recorded during pivotal concerts in 1973 and 1974, this album offers a unique glimpse into Mitchell's artistic evolution as he explores the depths of free jazz and avant-garde sounds.

"The Solo Concert" features nine tracks, each a testament to Mitchell's virtuosity and boundary-pushing approach to music. The album opens with "Nonaah," performed in Montreal, and closes with another rendition of the same piece, this time recorded in Pori, Finland, highlighting the artist's growth and versatility over time. Other standout tracks include "Alto" and "Bass," both recorded in Montreal, and "Eeltwo Pt. 1" and "Eeltwo Pt. 2," performed in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Each piece is a journey through Mitchell's unique sonic landscape, characterized by his distinctive alto and tenor saxophone playing.

Originally released in 1974 as "The Roscoe Mitchell Solo Saxophone Concerts," this remastered edition brings new life to the historic recordings, allowing listeners to experience the raw energy and innovation of Mitchell's performances. The album's genres, free jazz and avant-garde jazz, are perfectly encapsulated in these solo pieces, making it a essential addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection. With a total duration of 41 minutes, "The Solo Concert" is a concise yet powerful exploration of Mitchell's artistic vision.

This is a 2011 Reissue released as a LP.
