The first version was pressed at 45 RPM, but this one isn't. That said, it sounds fantastic on my setup, with some extra high-end clarity that the original CD release really missed, in my opinion.
In my copy, the 'buffalo man' logo ain't raised.

Kicking off with Just Another Story, we're instantly transported to a New York ghetto, feeling the tension of potential danger. It's quite convincing, really. Kay's soulful ramblings and Smith's outstanding keyboard work make these tracks genuinely captivating, especially with Zender's smooth and skilled bass playing. The drums are even more impressive than on the debut, thanks to Derrick McKenzie's slick, jazzy drumming. Stillness in Time offers a blend of Stevie Wonder and Sergio Mendes' Brazil 70, all delightful musical elements. Half The Man finds JK in a gloomy state, rumored to be his mood during the album's recording. With Light Years, we're back on the streets, but this time on the sunny side. Manifest Destiny, one of the album's highlights, features driving piano and restrained Earth, Wind & Fire horns, narrating a tale of Native American Indians. The opening bassline is irresistible and highlights how much Zender's absence was felt after the third album. The band truly shines on The Kids, with its shuddering, stuttering drum beat (courtesy of the band's first drummer, Nick Van Gelder) and hard, wah saw-like clav. It's a full-blown James Brown funk extravaganza with killer horns. Mr. Moon starts with tasty congas, solid four-to-the-floor beats, and tight slap bass. It's a complex track showcasing the band's incredible skills, while Scam, not the most exciting here, could easily fit into a 1979 playlist but shows the band's deep understanding of their beloved genre. It's time for an instrumental piece complete with Digeridoo on Journey To Arnhemland, but it's a bit uninspired and overstays its welcome by a minute or two. Morning Glory is a deep, slow, Latin-tinged gentle piece reminiscent of Brazilian trio Azmuth, leading us to the closing track Space Cowboy, another excellent blend of jazz/funk/soul or whatever you'd like to call it. Overall, it's an ambitious album that most bands could only aspire to create. It marks the end of the band's long-form instrumental workouts, with a plan to streamline and create more commercial, shorter songs. They did just that with album three two years later, and the sky was the limit. This 2017 We Are Vinyl pressing sounds incredibly warm and musical. All the instruments are well balanced, making it a joy to listen to. Original LP is 67:42 and CD is 65:44! This pressing is the CD length!
