Product description

Dive into the captivating world of "The Plague Dogs" with Patrick Gleeson's original motion picture soundtrack, a masterful blend of jazz fusion that brings to life the 1982 animated adventure drama film based on Richard Adams' novel. Released on July 28, 2018, this 38-minute album is a testament to Gleeson's prowess as a composer and performer, offering a rich, immersive experience that complements the film's narrative beautifully.

With tracks like "Time and Tide," "Freedom," and "The Escape From The Incinerator," Gleeson weaves a tapestry of sound that is both evocative and dynamic. The album, initially released on vinyl in 1982, has been meticulously remastered and brought to compact disc for the first time by Dragon's Domain Records, ensuring that modern audiences can enjoy the full depth and richness of the original score. Produced by Martin Rosen and recorded by Howard, the soundtrack is a seamless fusion of electronic and orchestral elements, creating a sonic landscape that is as compelling as the film itself.

Patrick Gleeson's "The Plague Dogs" is not just a soundtrack; it's a journey through the highs and lows of the film's narrative, capturing the essence of the characters and their adventures. Whether you're a fan of jazz fusion, film scores, or simply great music, this album is a treasure trove of auditory delights that will leave you wanting more.

This LP was released in 1982.

  • Soundtrack's Aging Brilliance

    4 out of 5 stars

Overall, the soundtrack is quite robust. It kicks off brilliantly with the lone vocal track "Time And Tide", penned and performed by Alan Price. It's a eerily joyful melody about someone who's found solace in death, fitting the movie's tone perfectly. The song later shifts into a bit cheesy, McCartney-like "white gospel", which hasn't held up well over time. The rest of the album is a synth-based score. When the themes are grim or melancholic, it's an incredibly impactful score. However, when the mood lifts, the album starts to feel a bit aged with a somewhat outdated approach. But these moments are rare- just like in this unique film that entrusted kids with the serious task of tackling very dark subjects. Setting composition aside, it's a technically well-crafted album, with no apparent problems with mixing or sound quality.
