Product description

Dive into the world of classical piano with John Lill's "The Malcolm Smith Memorial Album," a captivating collection released in 2014 under the prestigious Naxos label. This album, spanning 54 minutes, is a testament to Lill's virtuosity and his deep connection with the piano.

The album opens with Robin Holloway's "Grand Heroical March," a dynamic piece that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Lill's interpretation of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Ruddigore, Op. 40" is a delightful blend of humor and elegance, showcasing his ability to bring out the nuances in each piece. His rendition of the "Piano Sonata No. 3, Op. 34 Fantasy Sonata" is a tour de force, demonstrating his technical prowess and musical sensitivity.

Lill's performance of "Hamlet" is a highlight, with his expressive playing bringing out the dramatic tension and introspection of the piece. The album concludes with George Frideric Handel's "L'allegro, il penseroso ed il moderato, HWV 55: Come, but Keep Thy Wonted State," a serene and reflective piece that leaves a lasting impression.

Joining John Lill on this album are Leslie Howard, Mark Bebbington, and Julian Jacobson, each contributing their unique talents to create a rich and varied listening experience. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "The Malcolm Smith Memorial Album" offers a rewarding exploration of the piano repertoire.
