This is a decent album, featuring both numerous strengths and weaknesses. It's not Manowar's most impactful work, but sadly, it's currently their final release with new tracks.
One can appreciate this album if they're willing to accept that Manowar is a limited band. It sounds harsh, but come on now :-). If a band doesn't evolve beyond fight, die, hail, and kill or variations thereof over several decades, then that's just limited. Claiming to spread the true metal while doing so is bound to invite some ridicule and won't be taken seriously. But not taking Manowar entirely seriously isn't a bad approach. This record, too, only works if you approach it lightly or not at all. If you overlook the rather monotonous and one-sided lyrics, you'll find musically quite appealing, epic metal. Eric Adams, with increasing age, lets go of the annoying shrieking and actually starts to sing. Manowar nearly achieved a first with this album: a sonically well-produced record. Unfortunately, only nearly—the completely overdriven bass and partially distorted highs reliably prevent this, although there's some improvement over older releases. In conclusion: For fans of the band, this is a successful piece, but seen absolutely, it's rather average.
