Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of classical music with "The Glenn Dicterow Collection, Vol. 2," a captivating album released by the New York Philharmonic on June 3, 2014. This collection showcases the extraordinary talent of Glenn Dicterow, the highly-regarded concertmaster for the New York Philharmonic until his retirement. The album spans a duration of 1 hour and 33 minutes, featuring 10 meticulously crafted tracks that highlight Dicterow's virtuosity and the orchestra's unparalleled artistry.

The album opens with Aaron Jay Kernis's "Lament and Prayer," a profound and moving piece that sets the tone for the rest of the collection. Following this, the "Serenade" by Walter Piston unfolds in five distinct movements, each named after characters from Plato's "Symposium." The movements, ranging from "Phaedrus - Pausanias" to "Socrates - Alcibiades," offer a journey through various emotional landscapes, showcasing the orchestra's dynamic range and Dicterow's expressive playing.

The album also includes the "Violin Concerto, Op. 14" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a work that highlights Dicterow's technical prowess and lyrical sensitivity. The concerto's three movements, from the energetic "Allegro" to the whimsical "Presto in moto perpetuo," demonstrate the depth and versatility of Dicterow's musicianship. The collection concludes with "Carmen Fantasie," a vibrant and engaging piece that leaves the listener with a sense of exhilaration.

Conducted by renowned maestros such as Lorin Maazel, Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Masur, and Zubin Mehta, this album is a testament to the collaborative brilliance of the New York Philharmonic and Glenn Dicterow. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "The Glenn Dicterow Collection, Vol. 2" offers a compelling and enriching listening experience that celebrates the timeless beauty of classical music.
