Product description

Dr. Dre's seminal debut studio album, The Chronic, is a groundbreaking masterpiece that revolutionised the hip-hop landscape upon its release on 15 December 1992. This iconic record, released through Death Row Records and distributed by Priority Records, marked a pivotal moment in Dr. Dre's career, as he pioneered the G-Funk subgenre within Gangsta Rap. Characterised by its heavy sampling of George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic, The Chronic's slow-burning beats and infectious grooves redefined the sound of West Coast hip hop.

Featuring 16 tracks, including the unforgettable 'Nuthin' But A "G" Thang' and 'Let Me Ride', this album is a testament to Dr. Dre's innovative production style and his ability to craft a sonic experience that is both humorous and unflinchingly honest. With contributions from Snoop Doggy Dogg, The Chronic is an imaginative crusade that blurs the lines between reality and fiction, capturing the anger, frustration, and resilience of a community pushed to the brink.

Clocking in at just over an hour, The Chronic is a cohesive and engaging listen that showcases Dr. Dre's visionary approach to music production. Released to critical acclaim, this album has stood the test of time, influencing generations of artists and cementing Dr. Dre's status as a hip-hop legend. The Chronic is an essential listen for fans of G-Funk, Gangsta Rap, and hip hop, offering a unique glimpse into the mind of a visionary producer and rapper who continues to shape the sound of contemporary music.

This 2025 Reissue 2LP set is pressed on Gray vinyl.

  • Green Vinyl, Great Audio

    5 out of 5 stars

The audio quality on this is fantastic, it's got a really lively sound and I'm loving the green vinyl, they totally got the color of the pot leaf spot on!

  • DSS Version Shines Bright

    5 out of 5 stars

Go for this DSS version, it's way better than the Qobuz CD one, it's like comparing night and day. A true treasure if you're a fan of this album. Not a single skip or click on my copy, the packaging is gorgeous, and the release is stunning.

  • Original Tapes Instrumental Version

    5 out of 5 stars
    Chwidpu2638December 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

Excellent quality record. I'd guess they utilized the original tapes for the DSS One Step pressing and also made this instrumental version while they were doing it.

  • Mixed feelings, decent sound

    4 out of 5 stars
    Geqzisigoj69December 15, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'd give it a rating somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. I'm a member of the club. Shipping: The shipping quality is pretty poor, about a 1 out of 5. The mailer is cheap and had no padding, so a seam ended up splitting. To be honest, Amazon does a better job. Packaging: The cover is really nice. I have the standard pressing, and this one is quite cool because it's foiled and really stands out. However, it's just a single wide pocket, not a gatefold. It's on regular stock and is pretty thin. Combined with the shipping method, I ended up with a lot of bent corners and a seam split at the top. It comes in a VMP-style resealable sleeve, which is fine. The slipmat is just included separately and isn't part of the actual record package. If someone were reselling this as sealed, there's no guarantee you'd get the slipmat unless they opened the outer sleeve and stuck it in. The slipmat is pretty much a standard felt one. I won't use it, but it's fine for the average person. The mini poster is included in the sleeve. I have a previous pressing of this, and this mini poster is worse. It seems like they scanned the old one and reprinted this at a lower resolution. It's blurry and, in my opinion, low quality. Pressing Quality: When I first opened it, the records were quite dirty. They looked like the floor mats in my car. There was also some light scratching. However, I ran them through my ultrasonic cleaner, and that got everything off. I highly recommend wet washing them before playing. The color is really nice, I do like that. Sound Quality: I'd rate the sound quality as good. It sounds about the same as my previous pressings. Good bass, so-so higher end, typical classic Hip Hop sound. It's not a demonstration disc, but I definitely got into it. And despite the records both being dirty with some mild scratching, mine were silent and played without any noise. Overall, I'm generally happy about it, love the alternative cover, but I'm not sure if I'll continue with this series.

  • Walmart Vinyl Impresses

    5 out of 5 stars
    honlpesfeocremaDecember 8, 2025United States🇺🇸

I must say, this sounds way better than I thought it would (especially considering it's Walmart's colored vinyl). After spinning all four sides, I only noticed a couple of pops or clicks during the music. The sound is crisp and detailed. The bass is there, but it doesn't take over. I was really on the fence about buying this after reading all the not-so-great comments about the 'interscope' version that's three times the price. There were no reviews here, so I decided to give it a shot. (Of course, I gave it a good clean with the wet vac before playing, like I do with all my albums). I'd definitely recommend it!
