Product description

Dive into the rich, soulful sounds of "The Blues Singers" by Red Allen, a masterful collection of 18 tracks that blend the timeless allure of bluegrass and newgrass. Released on March 11, 2018, under Maestro Entertainment, Corp., this album is a testament to Allen's enduring legacy as a trumpet virtuoso and blues pioneer. Born in 1907 in New Orleans, LA, Henry "Red" Allen's flamboyant and exploratory style set him apart, offering a compelling alternative to the likes of Louis Armstrong. His musical prowess shines through in every note of this album, from the playful "It Must Be Jelly 'Cause You Know Jam Don't Shake" to the poignant "When They Play the Blues."

"The Blues Singers" is not just an album; it's a journey through the heart of American music, showcasing Allen's ability to weave storytelling and emotion into each track. Collaborations with Blue Lu Baker add a layer of depth and harmony, making songs like "He's so Good" and "I Don't Dig You Jack" even more captivating. The album's 53-minute runtime is packed with energy and soul, from the lively "Jitterbug Blues" to the hauntingly beautiful "Corrine Corrina."

For fans of bluegrass and newgrass, this album is a treasure trove of timeless melodies and innovative arrangements. Red Allen's trumpet work is a standout feature, but the album also highlights his versatility as a musician and his deep connection to the blues tradition. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to his music, "The Blues Singers" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that celebrates the enduring power of the blues.

This LP was released in 1980.

About Red Allen

Red Allen, born Henry James "Red" Allen Jr. on January 7, 1908, was a pioneering American jazz trumpeter and vocalist whose innovative style bridged the gap between the New Orleans tradition and the swing era. Known for his individualistic approach and advanced playing techniques, Allen was one of the last great trumpeters to emerge from New Orleans in the 1920s. His career spanned from the 1920s to the 1960s, during which he not only showcased his trumpet prowess but also led small bands and lent his distinctive voice to numerous recordings. Allen's music is a testament to his rhythmic ingenuity and his ability to blend traditional jazz with early experimental sounds, making him a standout figure in the jazz world. His legacy continues to inspire musicians and fans alike, cementing his place as a jazz great.
