Product description

Immerse yourself in the masterful artistry of Ivry Gitlis with this extraordinary collection of violin concertos and solo works. Recorded in 1992, this album showcases Gitlis' unparalleled virtuosity and deep musical insight, accompanied by the West German Broadcasting Orchestra of Cologne under the baton of conductor Hans Vonk. At 69 years old, Gitlis delivers a powerful and nuanced performance that highlights his decades of experience and profound connection to the music.

The album spans a duration of 2 hours and 39 minutes, featuring a diverse repertoire that includes works by Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, and Bartók. From the lyrical beauty of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor to the dramatic intensity of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, each piece is performed with technical brilliance and expressive depth. The inclusion of Bartók's Sonata for Solo Violin further demonstrates Gitlis' versatility and command of the instrument.

This recording is a testament to Gitlis' enduring legacy as one of the most influential violinists of the 20th century. His playing is characterized by a rich, singing tone, impeccable phrasing, and a deep understanding of the composers' intentions.
