Product description

Eric Le Lann, a renowned trumpeter, teams up with pianist Paul Lay to deliver a captivating jazz experience with their album "Thanks a Million." Released on October 19, 2018, under the Gazebo label, this album is a testament to the rich traditions of French jazz, with influences from free jazz and post-bop. The collaboration between Le Lann and Lay, who have a history of playing together in a quartet, brings a unique chemistry to the record.

Recorded in March 2018 at Studio de Meudon in France, "Thanks a Million" features ten tracks that span a total of 42 minutes. The album opens with "Dinah" and closes with "Farewell to Louis," showcasing a range of compositions that highlight the musicians' virtuosity and improvisational skills. Standout tracks include "Mack the Knife," "Azalea," and "Saint James Infirmary," each offering a distinct flavor of jazz that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.

The album's production was overseen by artistic director Laurent de Wilde, with mixing and mastering handled by Dominique "Dume" Poutet. The graphic design was crafted by Alexandre Saltiel, and the photography was done by Sarah Blum and Thomas Lang. The result is a polished and cohesive album that captures the essence of modern jazz while paying homage to its roots.

Eric Le Lann's trumpet playing is a highlight of the album, showcasing his technical prowess and emotional depth. Paul Lay's piano work complements Le Lann's playing beautifully, creating a harmonious blend that is both dynamic and intimate. Together, they deliver a performance that is both technically impressive and deeply expressive.

"Thanks a Million" is not just an album; it's a journey through the world of jazz, blending traditional and contemporary elements to create a sound that is both timeless and fresh. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
