The album is alright and can be enjoyed from start to finish. Pleasant sound quality, no hissing or crackles. Diana's voice has aged but remains lovely. Great to see her return
Diana makes a triumphant return with this album, securing a spot at No7 on the UK charts, her best position in over four decades. This feat was accomplished amidst the COVID 19 pandemic, with Diana notably absent from any promotional activities—no interviews or TV spots, which struck many as odd at the time. The album garnered widespread critical praise and even earned a Grammy nomination.
Having been a vinyl enthusiast for quite some time, I've become increasingly disappointed with new vinyl releases due to the apparent lack of quality assurance. Yet, I must say, the quality of this pink marble vinyl set is pleasantly impressive. The records are nestled in simple white paper sleeves within a gatefold cover, though, unlike the CD version, there's a lack of song credits, but the records themselves are of good quality. The noise is minimal, there's no warping, and they're perfectly centered...a rarity nowadays. The pink marble aesthetic is truly appealing! An outstanding album from beginning to end!
I gotta say, I'm not upset with this album at all. It's actually a wonderful refresh of Diana Ross's style. She's in her late 70s now, her voice has aged but she's delivered a record that's modern and suits today's times. The album is mostly about spreading hope and positivity, and the tracks are enjoyable. On the production side, there's some autotune and sound squishing that can come off a bit rough to my ears. I can't help but think how it might've sounded with a veteran producer like Quincy Jones - rich, luxurious? As it stands, I'm glad to have it this winter and I'll definitely be playing it again. I've got the standard US black vinyl version. It's alright!
