Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Baroque and Classical music with David Munrow's captivating album, "Telemann: Suite in A Minor - Sammartini & Handel: Recorder Concertos." This exquisite collection, released on April 10, 2024, under Warner Classics, showcases the unparalleled artistry of David Munrow, a pioneering figure in the early music revival, alongside the renowned Academy of St Martin in the Fields, conducted by the esteemed Sir Neville Marriner.

The album presents a delightful array of compositions, including Telemann's Ouverture-Suite for Recorder and Strings in A Minor, a work that exemplifies the composer's mastery of form and expression. The suite's movements, ranging from the stately "Ouverture" to the lively "Réjouissance," offer a rich tapestry of musical colors and emotions. Munrow's virtuosity on the recorder is particularly evident in the intricate "Air à l'italien" and the playful "Passepieds."

Complementing Telemann's suite are the Recorder Concertos by Sammartini and Handel. Sammartini's Concerto in F Major is a charming and spirited piece, while Handel's Concerto in B-Flat Major, originally composed for harp or organ, is brilliantly adapted for the recorder by Christopher Hogwood. These concertos highlight Munrow's exceptional technical prowess and his ability to convey a wide range of musical nuances.

With a total duration of 48 minutes, this album is a testament to the enduring appeal of Baroque and Classical music. Whether you are a seasoned enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Telemann: Suite in A Minor - Sammartini & Handel: Recorder Concertos" promises a rewarding and enjoyable listening experience.

About David Munrow

David Munrow was a pioneering British musician and historian of early music, whose brief yet impactful career left an indelible mark on the revival of medieval and Gregorian chant traditions. Born in 1942, Munrow's passion for early music ignited at the age of 18, leading him to co-found The Early Music Consort of London with Christopher Hogwood. His dynamic performances, often infused with a loose, improvised style reminiscent of his love for jazz, captivated audiences and set him apart as one of the most exciting and influential figures in the British early music movement. Munrow's tragic passing at the age of 33 cut short a career filled with promise, but his legacy endures through his recordings and the countless musicians he inspired.
