Product description

Evgeny Kissin's 1989 debut album, "Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No.1," is a captivating showcase of the young prodigy's extraordinary talent and musical maturity. Recorded live at the Philharmonie in Berlin with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the legendary Herbert von Karajan, this album features a stunning performance of Tchaikovsky's beloved Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23. Kissin's technical brilliance and deep musicality shine through in this thrilling interpretation of a concerto that Tchaikovsky himself cherished as one of his "favourite children."

The album also includes a selection of shorter pieces by Tchaikovsky, showcasing Kissin's versatility and sensitivity as an artist. The four pieces from Op. 51 offer a glimpse into the composer's more intimate and lyrical side, while the fifth étude from Op. 42 demonstrates Kissin's virtuosic prowess. With a total runtime of just over 51 minutes, this album is a compact yet powerful testament to Kissin's artistry and his deep connection with Tchaikovsky's music. Recorded at the height of his early fame, this album captures a pivotal moment in Kissin's career and remains a benchmark for pianistic excellence.

About Evgeny Kissin

Evgeny Kissin, the Russian-born concert pianist and composer, has captivated global audiences for over three decades with his virtuosity and profound musicality. Born in Moscow in 1971, Kissin began playing the piano by ear at the astonishing age of two, and by six, he had entered a specialized music school. His international breakthrough came in the 1980s, and since then, he has been hailed as a living legend in the classical music world.

Kissin's repertoire is vast, but he is particularly renowned for his interpretations of Romantic era composers such as Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. His playing is characterized by a rare technical mastery that serves his deeply poetic and lyrical interpretations, making him a worthy successor to the great Russian piano tradition. Beyond his concert performances, Kissin has also explored composition, adding another dimension to his artistic legacy. A British citizen since 2002 and an Israeli citizen since 2013, Kissin continues to inspire with his bold and imaginative performances, fearlessly sharing his unique musical vision with the world.
