Product description

Robben Ford's 1988 album "Talk To Your Daughter" is a masterclass in sophisticated blues-rock guitar playing, showcasing the American musician's exceptional talent during one of the most prolific periods of his career. This nine-track album, released under Warner Records, blends a rich tapestry of modern blues, blues rock, jazz blues, soul blues, and jazz fusion, offering a diverse and engaging listening experience.

The album opens with the title track "Talk to Your Daughter," setting the tone for a journey through Ford's virtuosic playing and soulful vocals. Standout tracks like "Wild About You (Can't Hold out Much Longer)" and "Help the Poor" highlight his ability to infuse traditional blues with contemporary elements, creating a sound that is both timeless and innovative. The cover of Albert King's "Born Under a Bad Sign" pays homage to the blues legends while adding Ford's unique spin, demonstrating his respect for the genre's roots and his skill in reinterpreting classic songs.

"Talk To Your Daughter" features a stellar lineup of musicians, including Roscoe Beck on bass and vocals, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, and Russell Ferrante on keyboards, who collectively contribute to the album's dynamic and rich sound. The collaboration between these talented artists results in a cohesive and captivating musical experience that showcases the depth and versatility of blues-rock.

With a runtime of just over 41 minutes, the album is a concise yet powerful collection of songs that highlight Robben Ford's mastery of the guitar and his ability to craft compelling melodies and lyrics. Whether you're a longtime fan of the blues or a newcomer to the genre, "Talk To Your Daughter" offers a compelling exploration of the blues-rock landscape, making it a standout release in Robben Ford's discography.

This 2024 Reissue LP is pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Ford's Blues Brilliance

    3 out of 5 stars
    pugaWJ_September 11, 2025United States🇺🇸

Robben Ford is a genuine blues musician with deep jazz/fusion influences and an outstanding background. That's all that needs to be said. Hailing from 1988, this is a solid compilation of blues tracks, a couple penned by Ford himself, masterfully executed in his unique style. His vocals are decent, but his guitar work is phenomenal. Among guitarists, Ford is renowned for his superb lead tone, which has evolved over the years with various gear, but remains consistently impressive and breathtaking. This recording is exceptionally clean with superb instrument clarity. Guitar tone is excellent. Good quality pressing. Three and a half stars. Worth checking out.

  • Incredible Sound Quality Triumph

    5 out of 5 stars

This album is absolutely breathtaking in its sound quality. The separation between instruments is excellent, the bass is rich and full, and the drums hit just right with a lovely natural reverb. The organ and key sounds are simply gorgeous. When Vinnie and Steve Porcaro are laying down the beats, you know you're in for a treat – these guys are brilliant musicians. The recording is top-notch, and Robben is in fantastic form, his famous Dumble overdrive amplifier really shines, especially towards the end of "Revelation." It's like he's right there in the room with you. What's not to love? It also proves that lighter records can sound amazing – some of my thinnest 80s vinyl are among the best sounding. So, go ahead and grab this one – it's affordable, easy to find in good condition, and most importantly, it sounds incredible.
