Leroy Smart, born in 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a legendary reggae singer-songwriter and producer who has captivated audiences since the early 1970s. Known as "The Don," Smart is celebrated for his fearless social commentary, streetwise bravado, and timeless melodies that blend roots reggae, rocksteady, and lovers rock. Raised in the Alpha Catholic Boys Home, Smart honed his craft in singing, drums, and dancing, eventually recording his first single, "It Pains." With a flamboyant performance style and an exceptionally anguished delivery, Smart has become a standout figure in the reggae scene. He has worked with renowned producers like Gussie Clarke, Joe Joe Hookin, and Bunny Lee, and his hits like "Mother Liza" and "Pride & Ambition" have solidified his place in reggae history. Leroy Smart's music is not just an experience but a journey through the heart of Jamaican culture and the soul of reggae.
