If you manage to track down this vinyl in decent shape and for a fair price, go ahead and grab it. It's every bit as good as the '88 version and the sound is INCREDIBLE. From what I've read about the new re-releases, they just don't craft them with the same care as they used to.
I'd rather have the original Straight Outta Compton album, but I genuinely enjoy the bonus track version with the Express Yourself single. It's such a great album, and I like almost every track (the first three are my favorites. And the extended mixes are way better than the original versions of Straight Outta Compton and Express Yourself. So, I reckon this version is also very good, thanks to the bonus tracks and the remastering.
Alright, the pressing might not be perfect, but who gives a damn, this album is an absolute masterpiece
This repress is quite perplexing. The same barcode is used for multiple versions. The code I can see on the vinyl itself isn't listed here at all, funny enough. Mine's marked as made in France and it's heavy, likely 180 grams. The record's quality? It's missing that punchy bass some other rap albums have, but it sounds pretty clear with no irritating noise between tracks.
Back in '88, my mate Ben had the fortune of visiting the States, and I was green with envy! But when he returned to school after the break, he approached me with a grin and said, "I picked up this hip hop cassette while I was in the US, and it's not really my cup of tea, but I reckon you'd love it!" After a swift haggle, I handed over Β£5. Plus, he had the latest Nike kicksβpristine white with that iconic red swoosh and dual velcro straps (no laces in sight). I forked out another Β£10 for those, making it Β£15 in total. Happy? More like over the moon! I'm not one to brag (I've got no ego), but I was likely among the first lucky souls to own this legendary LP on cassette. Now, at 45, I still adore this album. Sure, some lyrics haven't aged wellβthey're pretty misogynisticβbut the music production is out of this world! The amen break sampled here truly brought it to the masses. Jungle, techno, hardcore, rave, darksideβUK's scene wouldn't be the same without it. And let's not forget, this album bridges the west and east coasts seamlessly. No beef, just pure hip-hop samples galore. Fresh for 2018, you losers! Hahahaha. Peace ;) P.s. did Quiet On Tha Set inspire Gunshot, that brilliant UK Hip Hop act from the early '90s?
