Product description

"Stitt Meets Brother Jack" is a captivating jazz album that brings together the extraordinary talents of saxophonist Sonny Stitt and organist Jack McDuff. Recorded in 1962 and released under the Prestige label, this album is a testament to the dynamic interplay between Stitt's virtuosic tenor saxophone and McDuff's soulful Hammond organ. The album features a stellar lineup, including guitarist Eddie Diehl and drummer Art Taylor, creating a rich tapestry of sound that spans bebop, hard bop, and cool jazz.

With a runtime of just under 39 minutes, the album packs a punch with eight tracks that showcase the artists' mastery of their instruments. From the tender ballad "When Sunny Gets Blue" to the upbeat "Ringin' In," each track offers a unique blend of technical prowess and emotional depth. The album's standout tracks, such as "All Of Me" and "Pam Ain't Blue," highlight the chemistry between Stitt and McDuff, making for an engaging and memorable listening experience.

Originally released as two separate LPs, "Nuther Fu'ther" and "Soul Shack," this reissue brings together the best of both albums, offering a comprehensive look at this pivotal collaboration. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Stitt Meets Brother Jack" is an essential addition to any music collection, showcasing the timeless appeal of these legendary artists.

About Sonny Stitt

Sonny Stitt, born Edward Stitt in Boston and raised in Michigan, was a pioneering American jazz saxophonist renowned for his warm, distinctive tone and his mastery of the bebop and hard bop idioms. Nicknamed the "Lone Wolf" by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern, Stitt was known for his relentless touring and his preference for working with different musicians, rather than forming a permanent band. Initially, Stitt's style was compared to that of Charlie Parker, but he soon developed his own unique sound, particularly on the tenor saxophone. His extensive discography, featuring over 100 albums, showcases his versatility and innovation. Stitt's career spanned several decades, from establishing himself on the American jazz scene in the 1960s to making a significant impact on the UK jazz funk scene in the mid-1970s. He was also known for his sax duels with contemporaries like Dexter Gordon and Gene Ammons, further cementing his status as one of the finest bebop saxophonists of his era.
