Product description

Immerse yourself in the vibrant and patriotic sounds of America with Ralph Votapek's "Stars and Stripes - An American Concert." This live album, recorded with the legendary Boston Pops Orchestra under the direction of Arthur Fiedler, is a celebration of American music that spans a wide range of styles and genres. From the iconic marches of John Philip Sousa to the ragtime classics of Scott Joplin, and from the Broadway hits of Richard Rodgers to the timeless melodies of Disney, this album is a testament to the rich musical heritage of the United States.

Ralph Votapek, a renowned pianist known for his virtuosic technique and expressive playing, takes center stage in this concert, accompanied by a stellar ensemble of musicians. The album features a diverse selection of 35 tracks, including orchestral suites, piano transcriptions, and arrangements of popular songs, all performed with the characteristic energy and flair of the Boston Pops.

Highlights of the album include a thrilling rendition of "The Stars and Stripes Forever," the iconic march that has become synonymous with American patriotism, as well as a lively performance of "76 Trombones" from Meredith Willson's "The Music Man." The album also showcases Votapek's pianistic prowess in pieces such as Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and his own transcription of Debussy's "3 Preludes for Piano Solo."

In addition to the well-known classics, the album also features lesser-known gems such as Leroy Anderson's "Richard Rogers Walzer" and Franklyn Marks' arrangement of "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" from "Song of the South." The album concludes with a rousing performance of "Tiger Rag," a classic jazz standard that showcases the orchestra's versatility and virtuosity.

"Stars and Stripes - An American Concert" is a joyous and uplifting celebration of American music, performed by some of the most talented musicians in the world. Whether you're a fan of classical music, jazz, or Broadway show tunes, this album is sure to delight and entertain. So sit back, relax, and let the music transport you to the heart of America.
