About David Friesen

David Friesen is a renowned American jazz bassist, pianist, composer, and educator, born in Tacoma, Washington, and raised in Seattle. With a career spanning over six decades, Friesen's journey began at the age of five when he first encountered jazz music in his home. His professional career took off while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he played with legendary musicians like John Handy and Marian McPartland. Known for his technical prowess and intuitive playing on both double bass and electric upright bass, Friesen's music is deeply rooted in sensitivity, integrity, and a pursuit of excellence. His compositions, often orchestrated for large ensembles, reflect his spiritual and melodic approach to jazz. Beyond his musical talents, Friesen is also an accomplished visual artist, adding another layer to his creative universe. His extensive discography, featuring over 80 CDs, showcases his versatility and innovation, making him a beloved figure in the jazz community.
