Product description

Jon Eberson's "Standards" is a captivating journey through the world of free jazz, released on August 20, 2003, under the independent label Curling Legs. This album is a testament to Eberson's mastery of the genre, offering a unique blend of improvisation and composition that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.

With a runtime of 50 minutes, "Standards" features nine tracks, each showcasing Eberson's virtuosic guitar playing and his ability to reinvent classic jazz standards. The album opens with "Standard," setting the tone for the rest of the record with its free-flowing, unstructured approach to jazz. "Duo" and "La Chaleur De Vance" continue this theme, with Eberson's guitar weaving intricate melodies that are as thought-provoking as they are beautiful.

The album also includes a number of original compositions, such as "Leifs Blues" and "Funkallero," which demonstrate Eberson's skill as a composer and his ability to push the boundaries of the free jazz genre. "Polkadots and Moonbeams" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" are standout tracks, offering a more melodic and accessible approach to the music.

Throughout "Standards," Eberson's playing is characterized by its technical prowess, emotional depth, and sense of adventure. Whether he's exploring the outer reaches of free jazz or revisiting classic standards, he brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to every note he plays. This album is a must-listen for anyone interested in the world of free jazz, and a testament to Jon Eberson's enduring legacy as one of the genre's most innovative and influential guitarists.
