Wow, what an incredible album! Right from the start, there's a bit of surface noise, but it doesn't take away from the overall experience at all. The dynamics are mind-blowing, the bass is deep and punchy, and there's not a single tick or pop to be heard. They say picture discs are the worst, but this one is the complete opposite. It's one of the best-sounding records I own. And the animation on the disc makes playing it even more enjoyable. So glad I grabbed this after the show!
How do you even put into words an album like this one? I'm not sure, but I'll give it a shot. I've been a long-time fan of this band and have always appreciated their releases for what they are. Most of their work is a wild mix of breakcore, trip-hop, extreme metal, baroque, opera, and more recently, chip-tunes. Using "Savage Sinusoid" as a springboard, Igorrr's journey towards metal is almost complete, and I still find myself wondering if what I'm hearing is a guitar or something else entirely. The world music influences are still there, as are the baroque elements. You'll find plenty of breakcore and even some chip-tunes here too. The operatic vocals in no particular language, contrasted with the intense screaming, masterfully delivered by both Laure and Laurent, are now perhaps the most distinctive feature of this band. The musical themes introduced in the first half of the album are expertly resolved and refined in the second. As such, this is much more of a cohesive 'album' than any of their previous releases. The sound quality on my record is stunning. It's clear that a lot of care went into the production of this music. It's by far my most played album of 2020, just one week after its release, and I have a feeling this box set will become one of my most treasured possessions.
The records have great sound quality and look really nice. However, the packaging isn't the best choice since the sleeve is designed for a standard 2LP, but these are actually two 2LPs, so they don't fit properly. I've got other records that ended up with different sleeve sizes. As I said earlier, the extra plastic sleeves for storage tend to get damaged when you take out the glued records.
Absolutely fantastic sounding picture disc. It's incredible in every single way! ..
Same old Spirituality and Distortion all over again... not a new album.
