  • Surprisingly Good Country Press

This isn't the *best* sounding press, but holy cow! It's way better than I expected. Country music from this time wasn't exactly made for audiophile listening, but this sure beats streaming. It's a tad bright, but hey — I wasn't expecting much and this really surprised me in a good way. The vinyl is quiet, the records weren't in the glossy paper sleeves, and it's pretty affordable. Really hoping more 90s-2000s country gets pressed with this kind of quality. FDT, but this album rocks lol.

  • Country Music Betrayal

For months, I've been stuck with this musical trash, nonstop. I'm a massive country fan, and I love every other music genre too. My taste is wide-ranging. First off, let me tell you, if you're reading this, you need to explore some genuine, raw country music instead of this junk. The pathetic reality is that artists like Carrie Underwood are what pass for country music these days (Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, etc.). Well, I'm here to say, don't even bother supporting those tasteless fools. The real artists who deserve your attention are the legends of the genre: Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Loretta Lynn. They were the real deal. What's that? You don't like that "twangy" country sound? I see. Well, guess what? That's what country music is all about. That's where it began, and that's where it will always be. If you don't like it, then go listen to something else because this isn't country music. Country isn't about "good" or "pretty" singing. It's about storytelling, and it evolved from folk music. Enough said, this album is just pop nonsense that talks about living in the country, which doesn't make it country music. Go listen to something good by one of the real country artists and don't waste your time with this crap. I'm done here.

  • Carrie's Stellar Debut Album

    4 out of 5 stars
    nutipifecahanjJanuary 15, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Carrie Underwood was my pick on American Idol last year, and, similar to Simon, I knew she was the one right from the start. Her voice is absolutely stunning and truly resonates, making you feel every word she sings. Some folks have said she seemed a bit reserved on the show, but considering she's a young lady from a small town with no prior experience like this, it's totally understandable. Contestants like Bo and Constantine were older and had been performing for years, so it's no surprise they came across as more charismatic. But Carrie's natural vocal talent was more than enough to win me (and clearly millions of others) over. Now, about the album, as the title suggests, it really brings back why I love country music more than other genres. Back in the early 90's, I didn't listen to anything else. But then, a wave of artists who all sounded the same took over, and I lost interest. Seeing Carrie on Idol earlier this year was like a breath of fresh air. Slowly, I started tuning into country radio more often. Now, I find myself eagerly awaiting the CMA's – something I haven't done in ages. With Carrie and some of the other artists I've heard lately, both new and old, country music is back. And it's better than ever. The first single, "Jesus Take the Wheel," is absolutely fantastic. I like it way more than "Inside Your Heaven"; it's not a knock on Carrie, but I'm just not a fan of the winner's typical single. "JTTW" was made for her, and I wish it had been her debut. The lyrics are powerful and relatable, and the vocals are perfect. On first listen, I'll be honest, I wasn't overly impressed with the second single (to AC/Pop), "Some Hearts." Maybe it was because it's not country. But now, I get why it was released to both genres. And after listening to it a few more times, I really like it. In fact, I LOVE it. :) It's fun, catchy, vocally sweet, and just puts a smile on your face. But I still prefer her country stuff. "Wasted," in my opinion, should definitely be her next single. It's a fantastic song. Again, the lyrics are highly relatable, the vocals are lovely, and the chorus is incredibly catchy. The arrangement is also very nice. In the end, whether it's a ballad or an upbeat track, country or pop, Carrie nails it. And she does it brilliantly. This album is incredibly impressive and, in my opinion, the best from an Idol contestant yet. I say this as a big fan of Kelly, Ruben, and Fantasia. Whether you're a fan of hers or not, objectively, one can't deny Ms. Underwood's effortless grace and amazing ability to bring these songs to life. This exquisite collection is something to be remembered for years to come.
