Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
I've been gathering these half-speed mastered versions, and each one has been fantastic so far. However, I'm going to need to swap out my copy of this particular release because the surface noise is just too much—even after giving it a good clean with my Hannl RCM. If it weren't for the vinyl being so noisy—you can even hear pops during the louder, denser tracks—this would definitely be a keeper. I'll be sure to update this review once I've tried a second copy.

Fantastic digitally remastered version of the iconic Roxy Music's fifth album "Siren". Spotless and completely devoid of any imperfections; no clicks, no pops.. Just sheer delight. Lively and faithful to the original, though ONLY 95% as good, as a NM/NM original UK first pressing, but then at 1/4th the cost. After doing a side-by-side comparison, I can confidently say that this is a must-buy.
Out of the four Roxy 2015 SACD DSD flat transfers I've come across so far, this one's the toughest to fall for. Primarily, it's 'cause the tape or the recording itself doesn't sound as good or as well-produced as, say, Stranded or Avalon. Even their much earlier debut sounds better. There's also the very common 1999 HDCD remaster, which tries so hard to sound less murky that it ends up a bit hard and unnatural in the highs, but it makes up for it with some clarity, punch, and life. This SACD is much truer to the original tape, so it can seem a bit dull and flat. However, it is more expansive and easier on the ears. It'd be great to have the best of both worlds. This is the only SACD I can't say is a must-have compared to the 1999 HDCD, but if you want the truth and don't mind a darker, smoother presentation, then this disc is the one for you!
Burning at Both Ends. The ultimate Roxy Music collection. Ferry's finest work.
