Rosemary Clooney was an amazing singer who dominated the '50s scene. However, in my opinion, her voice from the '70s to '80s was more mature and expressive. This collection on Concord Jazz is a fantastic assortment of classic standards and popular contemporary tunes, all beautifully interpreted by a true master. She shines brightest with those somber love songs, pouring a deep melancholy into her delivery. It's simply enchanting. Backing her up with plenty of guitar is Canada's own powerhouse, Ed Bickert. His smooth comping sets the perfect mood for this album, and his solos are delightful, though not as flashy as you might find on her records with the skilled Cal Collins. Ed's style is very understated and somewhat reminiscent of Louis Armstrong. The band here really swings when it counts. The recording and production are top-notch. The pressing is excellent, although my copy has a rather noticeable saddle warp. Highly recommended.
