Mind-blowing audio, the opening four seconds of sound obliterated every album I'd heard in the past half year.
Yet another fantastic re-release from Classic Records, pressed on 180 grams. The sound quality is truly exceptional, a testament to a superb pressing. I wholeheartedly recommend it, especially given the still reasonable prices for such a gem.
Fantastic digital transfer with an amazing dynamic range - absolutely essential!Analyzed: Duke Ellington / Johnny Hodges / Side By SideββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββDR Peak RMS Duration TrackββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββDR13 -1.13 dB -17.83 dB 6:42 01-Stompy JonesDR14 -1.95 dB -18.49 dB 4:39 02-Squeeze MeDR14 -0.96 dB -19.06 dB 5:39 03-Big ShoeDR13 -0.54 dB -18.31 dB 4:55 04-Going UpDR14 -0.34 dB -19.57 dB 5:56 05-Just A MemoryDR14 -1.06 dB -19.83 dB 6:50 06-Let's Fall In LoveDR13 -1.72 dB -18.87 dB 2:35 07-RuintDR13 -1.62 dB -18.87 dB 3:01 08-Bend OneDR13 -1.16 dB -17.78 dB 5:57 09-You Need To RockββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββNumber of tracks: 9Official DR value: DR13Samplerate: 192000 HzChannels: 2Bits per sample: 24Bitrate: 6389 kbpsCodec: FLAC================================================================================
This 24-bit 192-kHz remaster, released a whopping 61 years after its first appearance, is absolutely stunning. The crispness, range, and blend are flawless. It's as if this is one of those High Dynamic Range albums, I'm pretty sure there's zero compression. I might be playing this a tad too loud, haha! The creativity in this is off the charts, and I can only picture how many jaws dropped when it came out in 1960, just like mine did in 2024. Not a single boring bit. Fantastic!
This record sounds fantastic on my setup, particularly given its age. The vinyl is in great shape, nice and heavy at 180 grams. The only thing I noticed is that it's a bit on the quiet side, a few decibels softer than other albums. But just turn up the volume and dive into this wonderful piece by The Duke.
