Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of Ginette Neveu's 1957 album, a masterful blend of Sibelius and Suk's compositions. This mono recording captures the essence of Neveu's virtuosity, accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra under Walter Susskind and Jean Neveu on piano.

The album opens with Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47, a work renowned for its profound depth and technical demands. Neveu's interpretation is a testament to her skill, delivering a performance that is both powerful and nuanced. The concerto's three movements—Allegro moderato, Adagio di molto, and Allegro, ma non tanto—showcase her ability to navigate the piece's emotional landscape with grace and precision.

Following the concerto, the album presents Suk's 4 Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 17. These pieces, each distinct in character, offer a glimpse into Neveu's versatility. From the lyrical Quasi ballata to the fiery Appassionato, the melancholic Un poco triste, and the playful Burleska, Neveu and Jean Neveu's collaboration shines through in these intimate and expressive performances.

Recorded in 1957, this album is a historical document of one of the 20th century's most celebrated violinists. Ginette Neveu's tragic early death cut short a career that promised to be one of the most illustrious in classical music history. This recording stands as a testament to her artistry, offering a chance to experience her extraordinary talent firsthand. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a captivating journey through the works of two great composers, brought to life by one of the most gifted violinists of her time.

About Ginette Neveu

Ginette Neveu, the remarkable French violinist, left an indelible mark on the world of classical music despite her tragically short career. Born on August 11, 1919, Neveu's prodigious talent was evident early on when she triumphed over the renowned David Oistrakh at the age of 15 in the prestigious Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. Her playing was celebrated for its virtuosity, passion, and warmth, blending the rigor of Heifetz with the modesty of Menuhin. A student of Jules Boucherit, George Enescu, and Carl Flesch, Neveu's performances captivated audiences and critics alike. Her untimely death in a plane crash at the age of 30 cut short a career that was still on the ascent, making her one of the most tragic figures in violin history. Today, her recordings continue to inspire, offering a glimpse into the extraordinary talent of Ginette Neveu.
