Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical music with Bernard Haitink's remarkable album, "Shostakovich: Symphony No. 10 in E Minor, Op. 93 – Holst: The Planets, Op. 32, H. 125 (Live)." This live recording, released on November 6, 2020, under Urania Records, showcases the extraordinary talent of Bernard Haitink and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, delivering a powerful and evocative performance that spans a diverse range of emotions and atmospheres.

The album begins with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 in E Minor, Op. 93, a profound and introspective work that reflects the composer's personal struggles and the political climate of his time. Haitink's masterful interpretation brings out the symphony's intricate details and dramatic contrasts, offering a deeply moving musical experience.

The second half of the album features Gustav Holst's iconic suite "The Planets," Op. 32, H. 125. Each movement is dedicated to a different planet in the solar system, and Holst's vivid and imaginative score paints a vivid musical portrait of each celestial body. From the fierce and relentless "Mars, the Bringer of War" to the serene and ethereal "Neptune, the Mystic," Haitink and the London Philharmonic Orchestra bring Holst's vision to life with stunning clarity and precision.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 47 minutes, this album is a testament to the enduring power of classical music and the exceptional artistry of Bernard Haitink. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this live recording is sure to captivate and inspire you.
