Product description

Immerse yourself in the resplendent world of Baroque and Classical brass music with Ludwig Güttler's "Selected movements from Concertos for Trumpet and Corno da Caccia." This extraordinary album, released in 1998 under the Berlin Classics label, is a testament to Güttler's virtuosity and his deep understanding of the historical context of the music he performs.

Spanning over two hours, this collection features 46 tracks, each a masterclass in baroque and classical trumpet and corno da caccia performance. Güttler, accompanied by the Virtuosi Saxoniae and the Leipzig Bach Collegium, breathes new life into works by composers such as Giuseppe Torelli, Johann Heinrich Rolle, and Georg Philipp Telemann, among others. The album is a journey through time, showcasing the evolution of trumpet and corno da caccia concertos from the late 17th to the early 18th century.

The album's diversity is one of its greatest strengths. It features a variety of forms, from concertos and sinfonias to suites and sonatas, each offering a unique perspective on the capabilities of the trumpet and corno da caccia. The performances are marked by their historical authenticity, with Güttler and his ensemble using period instruments and techniques to recreate the sound of the Baroque era.

Güttler's technical prowess is evident throughout the album, from the rapid-fire runs and trills of the allegros to the lyrical melodies of the adagios and largos. His playing is always expressive and nuanced, bringing out the individual character of each piece.

The album was recorded live in Nuremberg, adding an extra layer of excitement and immediacy to the performances. The sound quality is excellent, with a warm, natural tone that allows the instruments to sing out clearly.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience. It's a celebration of the trumpet and corno da caccia, two instruments that have played a significant role in the development of Western music. So, sit back, press play, and let the music transport you to the opulent courts and grand concert halls of Baroque Europe.
