Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with János Starker's captivating album, "Schumann / Lalo / Saint-Saëns: Cello Concertos." This exquisite collection, released on January 1, 1991, under Decca Music Group Ltd., showcases Starker's virtuosity and deep connection with the cello. The album features a stunning array of concertos by Schumann, Lalo, and Saint-Saëns, each piece a testament to the composer's genius and Starker's masterful interpretation.

The album opens with Schumann's Cello Concerto in A Minor, Op. 129, a work that beautifully balances intimacy and grandeur. Starker's playing is both delicate and powerful, drawing the listener into the heart of the music. The concerto's three movements—"Nicht zu schnell," "Langsam," and "Sehr lebhaft"—are rendered with exquisite nuance and technical brilliance.

Next, the album presents Lalo's Cello Concerto in D Minor, a piece known for its dramatic intensity and lyrical beauty. Starker's performance is marked by a deep emotional resonance, capturing the concerto's soaring melodies and intricate rhythms with precision and passion. The three movements—"Prélude. Lento - Allegro maestoso," "Intermezzo. Andantino con moto - Allegro presto," and "Andante - Allegro vivace"—are executed with a sense of drama and lyricism that is truly captivating.

The album concludes with Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33. Starker's interpretation of this concerto is a masterclass in musical expression, showcasing his ability to convey both the depth and the brilliance of the music. The three movements—"Allegro non troppo," "Allegretto con moto," and "Un peu moins vite"—are performed with a sense of elegance and virtuosity that is truly inspiring.

Throughout the album, Starker's playing is characterized by a deep understanding of the music and a profound respect for the composers' intentions. His technical mastery is evident in every note, but it is his ability to convey the emotional depth of the music that truly sets him apart. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.
