Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical music with Radu Lupu's extraordinary album, featuring Franz Schubert's "Sonata pentru pian în Re major, op. 53" and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Concert nr. 5 pentru pian și orchestră în Mi bemol major, op. 73." This remarkable collection showcases the unparalleled artistry of Radu Lupu, a renowned pianist celebrated for his profound interpretations and technical brilliance.

The album opens with Schubert's Sonata in C major, a piece that exemplifies the composer's lyrical genius and emotional depth. Radu Lupu's delicate touch and nuanced phrasing bring out the subtleties of this beloved work, making it a highlight of the collection. The sonata's four movements, from the lively "Allegro vivace" to the graceful "Rondo. Allegro moderato," are performed with a sensitivity that reveals the full range of Schubert's expressive power.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto, a monumental work that demands both technical virtuosity and profound musical insight. Radu Lupu's performance is nothing short of breathtaking, capturing the concerto's grandeur and drama with precision and passion. The "Adagio un poco mosso" movement, in particular, showcases Lupu's ability to convey deep emotional resonance, making it a standout moment in the album.

About Radu Lupu

Radu Lupu, the renowned Romanian pianist, was celebrated worldwide as one of the greatest musicians of his generation. Born and initially trained in Romania, Lupu's career took off in the late 1960s, marked by an intense publicity campaign that contrasted with his inherently reclusive nature. Throughout his life, he maintained a strong aversion to self-promotion and the commercialisation of his art, preferring instead to let his music speak for itself.

Lupu's performances were characterised by their surreal sensitivity and profound musicality. He possessed an astonishing command of structure and an ability to delve deeply into the emotional core of each piece he played. His repertoire spanned the breadth of classical piano music, and his interpretations were marked by a unique blend of technical virtuosity and emotional depth.

Despite his fame, Lupu remained a private figure, often described as enigmatic and elusive. He shunned the spotlight, focusing instead on his craft and the music he loved. His legacy endures as a testament to his artistry and the enduring power of his performances. Radu Lupu passed away in April 2022, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and move audiences.
