Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Othmar Schoeck's "Notturno" and Franz Schreker's "Der Wind" with this captivating album, released in 2013 under the Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm label. This exquisite collection features the profound and evocative compositions of two masterful artists, brought to life by an ensemble of exceptional musicians.

The album opens with Schoeck's "Notturno, Op. 47," a five-movement masterpiece for baritone and string quartet. Each movement is a poetic journey, inspired by the words of Nikolaus Lenau and Gottfried Keller, and performed with exquisite sensitivity by Stephan Genz and the Leipziger Streichquartett. The pieces range from the serene and introspective "Sieh dort den Berg mit seinem Wiesenhange" to the lively and impassioned "Der Traum war so wild," showcasing the depth and versatility of Schoeck's compositional style.

Complementing Schoeck's work is Franz Schreker's "Der Wind," a captivating piece for violin, clarinet, horn, cello, and piano. This composition, performed by the talented Clemens Röger on horn and the Leipziger Streichquartett, adds a dynamic and rich layer to the album, highlighting the contrasting yet harmonious styles of the two composers.

Recorded in January 2013, this album is a testament to the timeless beauty of classical music, offering a rich and immersive experience for any music enthusiast. With a duration of 50 minutes, it provides a perfect blend of introspective and lively pieces, making it an ideal addition to any classical music collection.

About Othmar Schoeck

Othmar Schoeck (1886-1957) was a prominent Swiss composer and conductor, celebrated for his contributions to the late-Romantic era. Born in Brunnen, Schoeck's musical journey was marked by a deep commitment to the art song, or lied, with over 400 songs to his credit. His compositions span a wide range of genres, including operas, choral works, and orchestral pieces, each imbued with a sensuous and stringent style that reflects his German-Austrian influences. Schoeck studied under Max Reger and conducted various choral societies and symphonies throughout his career. Despite his significant contributions, Schoeck remains relatively unknown outside of Switzerland, adding an air of discovery to his music. His works, now increasingly popular, offer a rich exploration of the human experience, making them a captivating addition to any music lover's collection.
