As someone who owns both the original and this remastered copy, I must say this version is truly outstanding. It's clear it's a remaster; the bass and sound details really stand out. Some purists might disagree, but I personally prefer this version over the original, even though the first pressings have their own appeal. I think the prices for an original without the fanzine these days are a bit steep. For a similar price, I'd recommend this version, which is guaranteed to be free from any background noise or crackling.
I just pulled out this awesome 3LP collection for a play...Like a lot of us who've been moving our records around for years from storage units to apartments to houses, this isn't in Mint condition at all. It's got some scuffs, light surface scratches, and a bit of grime in the outer dead wax. But the good news is the slabs are still flat, there's not much surface noise (just a bit in the outer dead wax and very minimal elsewhere), and the sound is freakin' fantastic on this 1980 pressing...Loud and clear...(Fluance RT-82 w/Acrylic Platter, ATN-XP cart/5 stylus. Nobsound T3 Phono Amp, Aiyima A07 Pro, Kicker KB6B, & 2x Polk PSW10 Subs...Simple Low Cost Setup)...Enjoy the tunes!
This one's pure heaven. The way it looks and sounds is truly amazing. I'd definitely suggest it to any Clash enthusiast out there.
Wow, this version is fantastic. It's so quiet, the sound stage is incredible, and it's so dynamic. Sure, it's a bit flat, but the remastering really makes the most of better tech. My original copy is flatter, but this one doesn't miss a single detail. The bass is more noticeable but still clear and precise. I play this one more than the original, not just because it's better preserved. I think it really captures what the band was going for when they were hanging out on Broadway, checking out Studio 54, soaking up all that NYC had to offer back then: it's all about that beat. It must have been tough to get those big 12” disco cuts onto an LP back in the day. Everything from the start of side one shows that. Disc 3 is now exactly what it was meant to be: a DJ's dream to spin.
Rather than releasing Sandinista as a triple album, they ought to have gone with a 12” single featuring the Magnificat Seven, and torched the remaining master tapes in a fiery blaze.
