Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Russian classical music with David Zinman's "Russian Sketches," released on July 1, 1995, under the Telarc label. This captivating album spans a concise yet engaging 68 minutes, offering a journey through some of the most evocative and vibrant compositions of the Russian repertoire.

David Zinman, a conductor renowned for his dynamic interpretations, leads a masterful performance that brings to life the intricate details and emotional depth of each piece. The album opens with the enchanting "Russlan and Ludmilla: Overture," setting the stage for a musical exploration that includes the vivid landscapes and cultural richness depicted in Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov's "Caucasian Sketches Suite No. 1, Op. 10." From the majestic "In the Mountain Pass" to the serene "In the Mosque," each movement paints a vivid picture, transporting the audience to the heart of the Caucasus.

The album continues with Rimsky-Korsakov's exuberant "Russian Easter Overture, Op. 36," followed by the dramatic intensity of Tchaikovsky's "Francesca da Rimini, Op. 32, TH 46." The final piece, the elegant "Polonaise" from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin, Op. 24, TH 5," concludes the album on a high note, showcasing Zinman's ability to convey both grace and power.

"Russian Sketches" is a testament to David Zinman's artistry and his deep understanding of Russian classical music. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or new to the genre, this album offers a compelling and enriching listening experience.
