About Ruby Murray

Ruby Murray, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, was a powerhouse singer who dominated the British and Irish music scenes in the 1950s. With her distinctive hoarse voice, a result of an early throat operation, she captivated audiences and made history in 1955 by achieving five hits in the UK Top Twenty in a single week, a record that stood unmatched for years. Her chart success included ten hits between 1954 and 1959, solidifying her status as one of the era's most popular artists. Beyond her musical achievements, Ruby's life was celebrated in a play titled "Ruby," which opened in Belfast in 2000. She continued to perform in cabaret and nostalgia shows until her passing. Ruby Murray's legacy endures as a trailblazer who set the standard for future generations of performers.
