Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich, romantic soundscapes of Anton Rubinstein's Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 4, a captivating journey through the heart of 19th-century Russian music. This 2012 release on the Delos label brings together two of Rubinstein's most celebrated concertos, performed with exquisite artistry by pianist Alexander Paley and the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, conducted by Igor Golovchin.

The album opens with the vibrant Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major, Op. 35, a work that showcases Rubinstein's lyrical genius and technical brilliance. The concerto's three movements—Allegro vivace assai, Adagio non troppo, and Moderato—offer a thrilling exploration of moods and textures, from the energetic and playful to the deeply introspective.

Following this is the powerful Piano Concerto No. 4 in D Minor, Op. 70, a piece that was once a staple of the Romantic concerto repertoire. The concerto's three movements—Moderato assai, Andante, and Allegro—are filled with dramatic intensity and emotional depth, highlighting Rubinstein's ability to blend technical virtuosity with profound musical expression.

Spanning a total of 76 minutes, this album is a testament to Rubinstein's enduring legacy as a composer and pianist. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this recording offers a compelling introduction to the world of Anton Rubinstein, a pioneer who opened new horizons in Russian piano art.
