Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Julius Röntgen's violin concertos with this exquisite album, released on May 3, 2011, by CPO. Spanning a total of 73 minutes, this collection showcases two of Röntgen's most compelling works: the Violin Concerto in A Minor and the Violin Concerto in F-Sharp Minor. Each concerto is a masterclass in late Romanticism, offering a rich tapestry of emotional depth and technical brilliance.

The album opens with the Violin Concerto in A Minor, a piece that immediately draws the listener in with its Allegro ben moderato movement. The Lento second movement provides a moment of reflection, while the Finale. Allegro non troppo brings the concerto to a thrilling close. The Ballad, a standalone piece, serves as a beautiful interlude before the second concerto begins.

The Violin Concerto in F-Sharp Minor is no less impressive, with its Moderato first movement setting a contemplative tone. The Andante tranquillo second movement is a highlight, showcasing the violin's lyrical capabilities. The album concludes with the Allegro capriccioso finale, a virtuosic display that leaves a lasting impression.

Performed by the talented Liza Ferschtman and accompanied by the Deutsche Kammerorchester, this album is a testament to Röntgen's compositional prowess and Ferschtman's exceptional artistry. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a rewarding exploration of a rarely heard but deeply engaging strand of late Romanticism.

About Julius Röntgen

Julius Röntgen, a German-Dutch composer of classical music, was a prolific artist with a vast body of work spanning nearly every genre. Born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1855, Röntgen's music is deeply rooted in romanticism, yet his 18th Symphony, composed in the early 1930s, showcases a resolutely tonal melody with a neo-baroque formal cast. With around 650 compositions to his name, Röntgen's symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and songs reflect his enduring influence in the classical music world. A friend of Liszt, Brahms, and Grieg, Röntgen's legacy continues to captivate audiences and musicians alike.
