Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Julius Röntgen with his compelling album, "Rontgen: Symphonies Nos. 8 & 15 / Variationen uber eine Norwegische Volksweise." Released in 2009 under the CPO label, this album is a testament to Röntgen's mastery of symphonic composition, showcasing his intricate and evocative musical language.

The album features two of Röntgen's most celebrated symphonies: the Symphony No. 8 in C-Sharp Minor, a work of profound depth and intensity, and the Symphony No. 15 in F-Sharp Minor, a four-movement journey that unfolds with grace and power. Each symphony is a masterclass in orchestration, revealing Röntgen's ability to craft intricate musical narratives that resonate with listeners.

In addition to the symphonies, the album includes "Variationen uber eine Norwegische Volksweise" (Variations on a Norwegian Folk Melody), a charming and inventive set of variations that pays homage to Röntgen's Norwegian heritage. About Julius Röntgen

Julius Röntgen, a German-Dutch composer of classical music, was a prolific artist with a vast body of work spanning nearly every genre. Born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1855, Röntgen's music is deeply rooted in romanticism, yet his 18th Symphony, composed in the early 1930s, showcases a resolutely tonal melody with a neo-baroque formal cast. With around 650 compositions to his name, Röntgen's symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and songs reflect his enduring influence in the classical music world. A friend of Liszt, Brahms, and Grieg, Röntgen's legacy continues to captivate audiences and musicians alike.
