Rontgen: Piano Concertos 2 & 4 - Julius Röntgen

Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Julius Röntgen's Piano Concertos with this exquisite release from CPO. This album showcases two of Röntgen's most celebrated works: the Piano Concerto No. 2 in D Major, Op. 18, and the Piano Concerto No. 4 in F Major. Each concerto is a masterclass in composition, blending lyrical melodies with intricate orchestration, and performed with remarkable skill by Matthias Kirschnereit on the piano, accompanied by the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Porcelijn.

The Piano Concerto No. 2 in D Major, Op. 18, opens with a vibrant Allegro, setting the stage for a journey through Röntgen's musical landscape. The second movement, Larghetto espressivo, is a poignant interlude, showcasing the pianist's sensitivity and the orchestra's expressive depth. The concerto concludes with a lively Finale - Allegro con brio, leaving the listener invigorated and inspired.

The Piano Concerto No. 4 in F Major follows a similar structure, with each movement offering its own unique charm. The Allegro opens with a sense of grandeur, the Larghetto espressivo provides a moment of introspection, and the Finale - Allegro con brio brings the concerto to a thrilling close.

Recorded in 2000, this album is a testament to the enduring appeal of Röntgen's music. The sound quality is superb, with a clear and detailed stereo recording that brings the performance to life. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to delight and enchant. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the rich and varied world of Julius Röntgen's piano concertos.

About Julius Röntgen

Julius Röntgen, a German-Dutch composer of classical music, was a prolific artist with a vast body of work spanning nearly every genre. Born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1855, Röntgen's music is deeply rooted in romanticism, yet his 18th Symphony, composed in the early 1930s, showcases a resolutely tonal melody with a neo-baroque formal cast. With around 650 compositions to his name, Röntgen's symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and songs reflect his enduring influence in the classical music world. A friend of Liszt, Brahms, and Grieg, Röntgen's legacy continues to captivate audiences and musicians alike.
