Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of Joaquín Rodrigo's masterful compositions with this captivating album, released in 1987 under Decca Music Group Ltd. This classical gem spans a total of 1 hour and 6 minutes, featuring three of Rodrigo's most celebrated works: "Concierto de Aranjuez," "Fantasía para un gentilhombre," and "Concierto serenata."

The album opens with the iconic "Concierto de Aranjuez for Guitar and Orchestra," a piece renowned for its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance. The three movements, "Allegro con spirito," "Adagio," and "Allegro gentile," showcase Rodrigo's ability to blend Spanish folk influences with classical sophistication.

Following this is "Fantasía para un gentilhombre for Guitar and Small Orchestra," a suite of four movements that evoke the grace and charm of a nobleman's court. Each movement, from the "Villano y Ricercare" to the lively "Canario," offers a unique blend of rhythm and melody that is both engaging and enchanting.

The album concludes with "Concerto Serenade for Harp and Orchestra," a piece that highlights the harp's ethereal qualities. The three movements, "Estudiantina," "Intermezzo con aria," and "Sarao," provide a serene and reflective close to this extraordinary collection.

Performed by some of the most esteemed musicians of the time, including Narciso Yepes and Nicanor Zabaleta, this album is a testament to Rodrigo's enduring legacy in the world of classical music. Whether you are a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album promises a rich and rewarding listening experience.

About Joaquín Rodrigo

Joaquín Rodrigo, born on November 22, 1901, in Sagunto, Valencia, Spain, was a pioneering figure in 20th-century Spanish classical music. Despite losing his sight at the age of three due to diphtheria, Rodrigo's musical journey was nothing short of extraordinary. He began his musical studies at a young age and later studied under the renowned composer Paul Dukas. His mentorship under Manuel de Falla further enriched his musical vision.

Rodrigo's most celebrated work, the "Concierto de Aranjuez," is a cornerstone of the classical guitar repertoire, showcasing his unique ability to blend traditional Spanish music with neo-classical elements. His compositions span a wide range of genres, from opera and vocal music to chamber music, each piece reflecting his deep understanding of melody and orchestral timbres.

Throughout his career, Rodrigo received numerous awards and honors, including the title of 1st Marquess of the Gardens of Aranjuez. His legacy continues to inspire musicians and music enthusiasts alike, making him one of the most important Spanish composers of the 20th century.
