Rockers Time Now - Johnny Clarke

Product description

Johnny Clarke's debut album, "Rockers Time Now," released in 1976 under Virgin Records, is a seminal work in the roots reggae genre that has left an indelible mark on the music world. This classic album spans a variety of styles, including roots reggae, dub, and rocksteady, showcasing Johnny Clarke's distinctive voice and profound lyrical depth. The album's ten tracks, all remastered in 2000, offer a rich tapestry of sounds that reflect the spiritual and social themes central to Clarke's music.

From the opening track "Rockers Time Now" to the closing notes of "Them Never Love Poor Marcus," Johnny Clarke's powerful vocals and insightful lyrics shine through. Standout tracks like "Satta Massagana" and "African Roots" highlight the album's spiritual and cultural resonance, while songs such as "Stop The Tribal War" and "Declaration Of Rights" address social and political issues with clarity and conviction. The album's brevity, clocking in at just over 40 minutes, ensures that each track is packed with energy and purpose, making it a timeless piece of work.

"Rockers Time Now" is not just an album but a testament to Johnny Clarke's enduring influence in the reggae genre. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to his music, this album offers a compelling introduction to the artistry and activism that define Johnny Clarke's legacy.

This is a 2018 Reissue released as a LP.

I reckon there should be a later second pressing of this vinyl, similar to The Gladiators' Trenchtown Mix Up, but without that white label edge. I've just found a copy, and guess what? There's an export sticker on the back of the sleeve, hiding the cat number.

  • Rasta Reggae Must-Have

    3 out of 5 stars
    lrjeva1695February 9, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is fantastic. Just as the title hints, it's all about Rasta themes, and I'd call this a must-have for Reggae fans. Sure, many of the top tracks are covers, but who wouldn't want Johnny Clarke to take on these songs? The production's top-notch, and the Aggrovators are at their finest here. What's there not to love?

  • Rasta Vibes Reggae Must-Have

    3 out of 5 stars
    shzevi5370September 19, 2024United States🇺🇸

This is fantastic! Just as the title hints, it's all about Rasta vibes, and I'd say it's a must-have for any Reggae fan. Sure, most of the standout tracks are covers, but who better to redo them than Johnny Clarke? The production is top-notch, the Aggrovators are at their finest, what more could you ask for?
