Product description

Robert Wittinger's "Maldoror-Requiem, Op. 42" is a profound and captivating musical journey that defies conventional boundaries. Released in 1992 under the Cadenza label, this album is a testament to Wittinger's unique compositional prowess, blending choral and orchestral elements with spoken word to create a hauntingly beautiful experience. The four-part work, inspired by the surreal and provocative writings of Isidore Ducasse, known as Lautréamont, is performed by the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart and the SWR Symphonieorchester, with Peter Roggisch and a stellar cast of vocalists bringing the text to life.

The album opens with "Introitus," setting the stage for a darkly poetic exploration of themes of rebellion, chaos, and the sublime. "Kyrie" follows, offering a moment of reflection amidst the storm, while "Sequentia diabolica" delves into the more unsettling aspects of Ducasse's work. The final movement, "Lacrymosa et prosa," brings the piece to a close with a poignant and introspective resolution. Throughout, Wittinger's mastery of form and his ability to weave together disparate elements create a cohesive and deeply engaging listening experience. This is not just an album; it's a profound exploration of the human condition, as seen through the lens of one of the most enigmatic figures in literature.
