Product description

Dive into the world of jazz with Rob van Bavel's debut album, a captivating collection of standards and original compositions that showcase the Dutch pianist's extraordinary talent. Recorded in 1990, this album marks a significant milestone in Rob van Bavel's career, as it earned him the prestigious Edison Award, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammy, just a year after its release.

The Rob van Bavel Trio, featuring Marc van Rooij on bass and Hans van Oosterhout on drums, delivers a polished and sophisticated sound that pays homage to the jazz greats while forging its own unique identity. The album opens with a soulful rendition of "There Is No Greater Love," setting the tone for an evening of intimate and engaging performances.

Throughout the album, the trio explores a mix of well-known jazz standards and lesser-known gems, each track offering a fresh perspective and a chance to appreciate the musicians' exceptional skills. From the playful "Waltz on B-Street" to the swinging "It's a Shuffle," and the tender ballad "Speak Low," the album showcases the trio's versatility and musical chemistry.

Rob van Bavel's classical piano training shines through in his delicate touch and nuanced phrasing, while his jazz sensibilities are evident in his improvisational prowess. The rhythm section of van Rooij and van Oosterhout provides a solid foundation, driving the music forward with their impeccable timing and dynamic interplay.

Born in Breda in 1965, Rob van Bavel has established himself as a formidable force in the Dutch jazz scene, performing with his own ensembles and accompanying other jazz luminaries. This album serves as an excellent introduction to his artistry and a testament to his enduring impact on the genre.

With a duration of 58 minutes, this album is perfect for a relaxed evening or a focused listening session. The Mirasound label has ensured the highest audio quality, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the trio's exceptional musicianship. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
