About Svend Asmussen

Svend Asmussen, affectionately known as "The Fiddling Viking," was a Danish jazz violinist whose career spanned an astonishing eight decades. Born in Copenhagen in 1916, Asmussen began his professional journey in 1933 and quickly became a full-time musician by 1937. His virtuosic swing style and charismatic stage presence made him a beloved figure in the European jazz scene. Asmussen collaborated with legendary musicians such as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Stéphane Grappelli, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz world. Beyond his musical prowess, Asmussen was also an accomplished actor, appearing in numerous films and stage productions, primarily in comedies. His contributions to jazz and entertainment earned him titles like "The Greatest Jazz Secret" and "Fiddler Supreme." Asmussen's legacy continues to inspire, showcasing his flawless technique, room-filling sound, and boundless creativity.
