Product description

"Reunion," released in January 1990, is a captivating jazz fusion album by the legendary vibraphonist Gary Burton. This album marks a significant reunion, as it brings together Gary Burton and his former guitarist Pat Metheny for the first time in over a decade. The collaboration is a testament to their enduring musical chemistry and innovative spirit.

Recorded at the prestigious Studio "A" in the Power Station, NYC, in May 1989, "Reunion" features a stellar lineup of musicians, including Mitchel Forman on keyboards, Will Lee on bass, and Peter Erskine on drums. The album's production quality is top-notch, with mastering handled by Sterling Sound, NYC.

Spanning 58 minutes, "Reunion" comprises 11 tracks that showcase a blend of jazz and jazz fusion, each song offering a unique sonic experience. From the introspective "Autumn" to the lively "Panama," the album explores a range of moods and tempos, keeping the listener engaged throughout. The title track, "Reunion," is a standout, highlighting the seamless interplay between Burton and Metheny.

The album's cover art and packaging, released by GRP, add to its appeal, making "Reunion" not just a collection of songs but a complete artistic experience. Whether you're a longtime fan of Gary Burton or a newcomer to his music, "Reunion" is an essential addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection.

This LP was released in 1990.

  • Metheny-Burton Masterpiece Reunion

    4 out of 5 stars
    woriCZ_June 3, 2024United States🇺🇸

To truly grasp Gary Burton's artistry, one must delve into Pat Metheny's work. Conversely, appreciating Pat Metheny's music fully involves recognizing Burton's impact on him. This album marks their first studio collaboration in 13 years. For Metheny enthusiasts, it stands among his finest works. The tracks are intricately composed, boasting lush melodies and an '80s rhythm section featuring studio legends Will Lee, Erskine, and Forman (not George). The overall vibe is moody yet cool, reminiscent of the ECM-era sound both artists mastered. Even the faster pieces exude a laid-back feel. My top picks are "Reunion" and "The Chief". The recording and mixing are superb, likely a digital master given its release year. This pressing is excellent. Highly recommended.
