Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Ottorino Respighi's "Belfagor, P. 137," a captivating opera that showcases the composer's mastery of neoclassical and classical styles. This 2014 release, brought to you by the esteemed label Hungaroton, offers a rich and immersive experience with a duration of over two hours, ensuring that every moment is filled with Respighi's distinctive musical genius.

"Belfagor, P. 137" is an opera that stands out in Respighi's discography, completed with the help of Elsa Respighi and Ennio Porrino after the composer's death. The libretto, penned by Claudio Guastalla, weaves a tale that comes to life through the opera's 36 tracks, each one a testament to Respighi's ability to blend orchestral grandeur with intimate, character-driven moments. The large orchestra arrangement adds depth and richness to the score, making it a standout piece in Respighi's repertoire.

The album features a diverse cast of characters, each brought to life through Respighi's evocative music. From the prologue to the epilogue, the opera unfolds with a narrative that is as engaging as it is musically rich. The overture, a popular track in its own right, sets the stage for the dramatic and lyrical journey that follows, showcasing Respighi's ability to create memorable and impactful music.

Whether you are a seasoned fan of Respighi's work or a newcomer to his compositions, "Belfagor, P. 137" offers a compelling exploration of his artistic vision. The opera's blend of classical and neoclassical elements, combined with its rich orchestration and compelling narrative, makes it a standout addition to any classical music collection.

About Ottorino Respighi

Ottorino Respighi, born in Bologna in 1879, was a versatile and influential figure in the world of classical music, serving as a composer, musicologist, and conductor. A key member of the "Generazione dell'Ottanta," Respighi was part of a group of Italian musicians who revitalised the country's musical landscape. His compositions, though eclectic and influenced by various European styles, are most celebrated for his series of symphonic poems inspired by the eternal city of Rome. Among these, "I Pini di Roma" stands out as his most renowned and frequently recorded work. Respighi's musical journey began in his hometown, where he studied under notable figures like Giuseppe Martucci. His legacy endures as a testament to his innovative spirit and deep connection to Italy's rich cultural heritage.
